The greetings that matter most.

There’s a line that’s been sitting in my head for a while now.

It goes something like this: the greetings that mean the most aren’t the huge gestures, they’re the ones that arrive.

It’s true, isn’t it? Most of us don’t need fireworks or grand declarations or a skywriter looping our name above the local supermarket. What we really want is to feel remembered. Thought of. Seen. Even just for a moment.

Christmas card friends

We all have those friends we adore but barely speak to. The ones where the only contact now is a Christmas card with a robin on the front and maybe a foreign stamp. And yet, that one card keeps the thread alive. It says I’m still here. You still matter. We haven’t fallen off each other’s map completely.

Let’s change it up

Imagine if we reached out a couple more times during the year. Nothing dramatic. Just a small hello. Or a little thank you to someone who really wasn't expecting it. Or “this made me think of you”.

A tiny spark of warmth that lands in someone’s day and makes them smile at their phone like a teenager with a crush.

Life is busy. People are busy. We all mean well, but the follow-up is where it gets messy. We forget birthdays. We forget to check in. We think of someone while we’re stirring pasta and then never actually send the message. And before we know it, months have passed and it feels awkward.

Just take a moment to make someone smile

But here’s the thing. It doesn’t take much to make someone feel valued. A few words. A moment of thought. A little note that arrives at the right time. These are the gestures that stay with us. The ones that lift us. The ones that put a spring in our step for the rest of the day.

Small is so powerful

That’s why I care so much about small greetings. They’re tiny, but they’re powerful. They’re the glue that holds relationships together when life gets chaotic.

They’re the reminders that we’re not alone in the world, even when everything feels a bit much. And honestly, I think we could all do with a bit more of that.

A bit more kindness. A bit more connection. A bit more “I thought of you today”.

Huge gestures are lovely, but they’re rare. Small gestures are where the real magic lives.
